Author Frank A. Lancione talks about reinventing "old age" and Sunset Years' success in its early days after release.
In the Sunset Years, Frank Lancione expresses his love for his wife of fifty year in unabashed and unembarrassed terms. Not what you’d expect from a senior citizen. But that’s the point. All the poems in this book are honest and upfront, expressing Lancione’s convictions and insights. They invite the reader to confront their own lives and feelings – not just about love or growing old, but also about friendship, politics - life in general. The poems also provide an opportunity for readers to assess their own views. Are their ‘golden years’ ahead of them, or behind them? Are they growing older, or bolder? This reader, for one, is in the bolder camp. Kudos to Lancione for his engaging, enlightening, enjoyable first book.
Delve into your feelings as we "seize each day" of our golden years!
Experience the emotions of doubt then triumph of setting new personal records in the gym, the joy of grandparenting, the quiet happiness that lifelong partnership brings.
I was particularly struck at the sad powerlessness of losing a loved one to addiction
The poems reflect the author, and many seniors embracing of the best parts of growing older with your life partner. A true tribute to love and partnership. Everyone should be that fortunate! A refreshing approach to life.
"Sunset Years" offers an exquisite anthology of poems to which all older people can relate. They are exhilarating, emotional, at times amusing, and often poignant. Lancione skillfully crafts his life experiences into tender vignettes. He shows how old age can be savored and he leaves the reader with the feeling that life as a senior can be youthful and optimistic. Each unique poem can be cherished, or you can gobble through the anthology, as I did, wanting to see what comes next!
The author speaks from his heart and covers wide range of topics drawn from his life’s experiences. And while not everything resonated with me, I think everyone will find wonderful poems they can identify and agree with. I wish I had more of his drive and enthusiasm for life….maybe reading this will give me the inspiration to do more in my golden years and go out like a glowing sunset!
I enjoyed the book poems. The poems made me feel good and look forward to the future. You are only as old as you let yourself think. Congratulations to you for keeping the joy in your marriage and all aspects of life. I will be giving your book as a gift.
Easy to read and to relate to.
The author wrote beautiful poetry celebrating his life and marriage. The love between them is clear in every line, and the author's joy of life is inspiring. The book is a good uplifting experience, especially for old folks who tend to forget the good things as age and discomfort increase with time.
The author takes slices of life, froths them with love for his life’s partner, and serves up simply-put poems that highlight living in the dessert years. A heartfelt sweetness throughout.
When I read Sunset Years, I find myself nodding my head enthusiastically, in agreement at every word!
I smiled, laughed, and teared up.... up to the last page!
When I think of my younger self and where I am now I appreciate the journey I’ve taken. Sunset Years puts into words the joy and the wisdom I’ve experienced.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It cannot be overstated how wonderful it is to be retired and living in Florida, especially in The Villages where there is so much fun to be had. Thanks for sharing your story. What this book said to me is: don’t stop thinking about tomorrow. I plan to continue living the dream for as long as I possibly can because, as pointed out in the book, you’re only old once! I accept the author's challenge and hope to make these the best days of my life!

I loved my grandfather, Frank, who I am named after. He was a very important part of my life growing up. But he died when I was fourteen. When I finally got old enough to want to know more about his life, all I had left were a few family stories and some faded memories.
I wrote SUNSET YEARS because Diane and I know it will be the same for our grandkids. By the time they mature enough to want to really know more about our lives, we will be long gone. SUNSET YEARS is our way of leaving a record of who we were and how we lived for them to have when they are old enough to care about their family history.
I am publishing SUNSET YEARS because Diane and I love the life we have in retirement living in The Villages, Florida. We are thankful every day and we think many other people our age share our positive, grateful attitude towards life in their senior years. In that respect, publishing SUNSET YEARS is a celebration of life for us and the many seniors like us who are living out our last phase still striving, dreaming, and seeking to achieve.
