When we were planning the trip, I had two must do's for our time in Salt lake City: see Salt Lake and the Temple where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs at Christmastime. Today is Father's day. Diane and I spent the day at Antelope Island State Park just north of Salt Lake City. It was a great experience. We walked about a mile from shore out over the sands until we reached the water. We saw gorgeous vistas of mountains and the blue of the lake against the white of the salt flats. We even got to see a herd of American Bison that live on the island. Tonight, we will talk with our daughter Erin and our grandkids. A really great way to spend Father's Day. We hope you enjoy these pictures.

After dinner on Father's Day, and after we talked with Erin and the kids, Diane and I decided to take a ride into downtown, Salt Lake City. Our park was only a few miles from the center of town and it was surprisingly easy to get to the heart of the city. Even though it was after 7:00 pm, Temple Square was busy with young people giving tours. While the buildings were closed due to COVID, they were walking people around the outside, providing history on their religion and sharing their faith. The staffing was mostly young women around 19 years old. Serving as tour guides was a part of their missionary activities. Both Diane and I were impressed by how genuinely nice and passionate about their faith the young girls who served as our tour guides were. The main Temple is undergoing extensive renovations to protect it from earthquakes. Ultimately, it will rest on rollers and be able to move five feet in any direction in order to withstand major quakes. This brief time we spent at Temple Square was about much more than simply looking at buildings. Our time with our young tour guides helped us to really understand the religious passion that would motivate the Mormon people to make their quest West enduring incredible hardships in order to be able to practice their faith. It was a humbling and never to be forgotten experience.

When Diane and I were in Sedona , AZ, we found this little bear. His little girl accidentally left him behind and he was lost and confused. He said all he wanted was to find a little girl who would adopt him. We introduced him to our Granddaughter, Claire, over Skype. Claire gave him the name Grizzy and said she would love to have him come live with her. We will give him to Claire when we all meet in Coeur d' Alene, ID in early July. In the meantime, Grizzy is traveling with us. We took him on a sightseeing bus tour with us today. There were a lot of grandparents on the bus and Grizzy was a big hit. Salt Lake is a beautiful city. We hope you enjoy our pictures.
