The pages on this website which begin with the identifier "America" describe the three month, 10.000+ mile trip around the USA that Diane and I completed from June through August of 2021. This page describes how the material about our trip is organized.
The pages of this website which are identified by time periods are where you will find descriptions of where we were and what we were doing during each section of the trip and our pictures. The tab names at the top and bottom of the page describe the time periods that each page covers. The places we visited during a time period are presented in chronological order on each page.
If you want insights into what we thought about what we were seeing, then click on the "USA 21- Blog" page. Here you will find over 20 essays that talk about the beauty of our country, especially in the West. They also talk about what we learned through this trip and how it has changed our outlook on life.
There are some funny blog posts (Everything is Bigger in Texas), some posts about the beauty of our Land (American Beauty, High is the New Far), some posts about human nature (Circle of Life, Legacy, Indian Boarding Schools), and a sort of philosophic summary of what we learned on this trip (Epilogue).
The blog posts are in a horizontal slider window, right under the narrative Introduction at the top of the "USA 21- Blog" page. Slide left or right to see the titles of individual blogs and then hit the "continue reading" highlighted text below the blog's picture to see the whole essay. Whether you agree or disagree with our thoughts on issues, we think you will find these essays interesting and challenging.
Finally, this trip had two distinct goals: seeing sights and seeing people. The first half up through our arrival in Coeur D'Alene, ID is primarily about visiting places and what we experienced driving through the land. The second half of the trip - the people part - contains a lot of trip journal type entries that talk about who we visited, what we saw and did while we were together, and why they are important to us.
You won't know the people we visited, but you might be interested in what we did together while we were there. We've tried to include enough information so that you can follow up on the sights, restaurants, and activities we did with our friends if you ever visit those areas. If you are lucky, you will have close friends like those we visited and our experiences will remind you of good times you've had with your friends and family over the years.
Well, that's it. That's all you need to do to ride along with us on what was a fascinating, stimulating, challenging, rewarding, gratifying, unbelievable experience - a "trip of a lifetime!"
Thanks for riding with us!
